The botanically rich water channels support a diverse invertebrate fauna including water beetles " Haliplus mucronatus " and " Hydrophilus piceus ".

It is a root bacteria and together with " Azonexus fungiphilus " and " Azonexus hydrophilus " is one of the three species in the genus.

Invertebrate species associated with the drainage ditches include the nationally rare species Norfolk hawker dragonfly " Aeshna isosceles ", the great silver water-beetle " Hydrophilus piceus " and a large hoverfly " Lejops vittatus ".

Fresher ditches may support rare animals, such as the great silver water beetle ( " Hydrophilus piceus " ) and the great raft spider ( " Dolomedes plantarius " ), and a wide range of pondweeds ( " Potamogeton " and relatives ).

The terrestrial and aquatic invertebrates recorded on the site include four nationally rare species : the Great Silver Diving Beetle ( " Hydrophilus piceus " ), the soldier fly ( " Odontomyia ornata " ) and two true flies, " Lonchoptera scutellata " and " Stenomicra cogani ".

National rarities are the large marsh grasshopper ( " Stethophyma grossum " ) found on sphagnum moss bogs, the greater silver diving beetle ( " Hydrophilus piceus " ) and the lesser silver diving beetle ( " Hydrochara caraboides " ) which is now confined nationally to the Brue Basin Peat Moors.
