While " Swatow ware " is typically reserved for pieces with the characteristic styles of decoration, " Zhangzhou ware " also covers other types of wares made in the same kilns, for export or not, including large stoneware storage jars, whitewares, and a few figurines of the " blanc de Chine " type.

Old-fashioned glass cabinets display a Han dynasty bronze tripod food container that once belonged to the Chicago collector James Alsdorf; an 18th-century porcelain vessel for wine that is glazed a striking tea-dust green; a 19th-century carved ivory hairpin; a late-18th-century blanc de chine goddess of Mercy; and a 17th-century wooden brush pot.

The show has blanc de Chine bowls, divinities, scholar's objects and export wares as well as some unusual pieces : a crucifix made for the Western market, a pair of Ming panels that depict scenes from the Peking opera, a dish for throwing dice, a pair of three-legged toads, an exotic depiction of the Montgolfier hot air balloon, and the so-called He He Twins, two young Chinese boys with big smiles.
