The notion of the one-night-only gig around which Mitchell built the stage show has been modified : in the movie, Hedwig has a contract with a fictional chain of low-rent restaurants called Bilgewater's, and there is the running sight gag of this outrageous drag queen in denim mini-skirts and shaggy Farrah Fawcett hairdos hopping onto the tables of dumbstruck diners in dives in Baltimore and Miami.
